Orientation Week

Standing on the edge of a small cliff make me realise the mask was not aerodynamic and could of been crafted better with eye holes. I should have done a little more testing and sketched more of the symbols and diagrams instead of drawing straight on to the design. I'm happy with the feel of the scientific black board theme using oil pastels.

Orientation Week

I wanted to use the picture on the cardboard packaging as the white board was a perfect base for scientific diagrams.

Jamie's advice was to use bold white paper cut outs or more subtle materials to see which worked best.

The paper cut outs had a strong contrast to the low fi cardboard image that I liked.

I used a small colour palette with the simple white cut outs to keep it bright and simple.

Gradually I used oil pastels which give the impression of chalk which is reminds me of old black boards used in science.

Gradually I added more colours and science imagery using a mix of paper cut outs and oil pastels to enhance the black board look. The pastels make the image feel more three dimensional.

Orientation Week

I sketched out initial ideas of things that interest me and aspects of my personality.

These are sketches working out the construction and specific 'light cone' idea I wanted to be the focus of the mask.

I developed the theme of science which is a passion of mine and which areas could work on a mask.
It helped to make notes and get a list of everything I could think of before rushing into sketching ideas without any direction. The notes help generate ideas quickly.
